How we spent our Tuesday night

For some reason, Tuesday seems to be the only day we go to the hospital. We spent another Tuesday night in the hospital after Margaret fell and broke her arm at the playground. I'll spare the gory details, but let's just say it wasn't a dainty break (not a compound fracture, luckily, but it almost was). We did have a fantastic experience at Children's Hospital and she was in and out of surgery less than 3 hours after we arrived there. She and I spent the night at the hospital and arrived back home Wednesday morning.

My tiny girl was so incredibly brave. She initially said she was ok, and only needed a band-aid, the icy bear, some cream, and maybe some rest and a popsicle, and then she would be fine. She insisted that she didn't need a doctor, but of course she did. She is resting with lots of videos, juice and pain medicine, but she's really been a trooper. She'll have to wear her pink cast for 3-4 weeks, so she'll have to adjust to a new way of doing everything for awhile. Luckily, her prognosis is excellent and we expect her to make a full recovery and to resume all of her normal activities very soon, but please send her all the healthy arm vibes you can.

Yesterday she did say that she liked being at the hospital because they helped her. She has just been so sweet from the beginning.

There's something so heartbreaking about kids and hospitals, especially when they have to stick them with an IV. I've only had one experience with a sick Annika at the hospital when she was about 15 mos. old and had a terrible intestinal virus that caused her not to be able to hold anything down, including water, for days. Fortunately, the staff at these places really know how to cater to the kids and make them feel better. Sending you well arm vibes from Kansas. xoxo.
